UAE establishes mentoring initiative for nurses and midwives 2023

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced the “Nebras” project to improve nursing and midwifery skills and encourage scientific research that supports national health goals.

Pfizer and Nebras launched “My journey in nursing and midwifery research.” The 2022-2026 nursing and midwifery strategy includes it.

Dr. Sumaya Mohamed AlBlooshi, Head of the National Committee for Nursing and Midwifery – MoHAP, and other MoHAP officials, health and academic authorities, and nursing and midwifery experts and specialists unveiled the initiative at a press conference.

The project will boost UAE health and nursing policies and practices. It will also emphasize the ministry’s support for health professionals and healthcare research.

National Mentorship

A nationwide program guides nursing and midwifery research. The program encourages nursing and midwifery research specialists to apply as mentors and attend a three-day introduction training on program requirements and expectations.

The initiative allows UAE nurses and midwives to submit research proposals and apply as mentees. Following evaluation, ideas will be chosen. The approved mentee will be given a mentor, and they will construct a customized mentorship plan and schedule on an integrated digital platform.

The event will end with a ceremony honoring participants, showcasing their accomplishments, and sharing their research findings. A detailed report on the initiative’s activities, outcomes, and effect will demonstrate the Nebras initiative’s major influence on nursing and midwifery.

Scientific research

Dr. Sumaya AlBlooshi stressed the importance of nursing and midwifery in the UAE’s health system, saying they provide specialized and essential care for all community members.

This reflects MoHAP’s commitment to leadership and best practices to strengthen and sustain the health system. Dr. AlBlooshi remarked, “We are determined to establish a healthcare system that corresponds to the UAE’s vision for the next fifty years.

Nebras, which implements the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery (2022-2026), promotes scientific research and evidence-based practice, AlBlooshi said.

“Nebras advances the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery’s priority research studies. Study findings and suggestions feed national strategic goals and programs through this endeavor.

It shows MoHAP’s dedication to scientific research, which raises the standing of nursing and midwifery in the UAE. “This initiative also encourages young talent of both genders to consider those professions as career options and seek specialization in nursing afterward,” said AlBlooshi.

Reinforcing Governance

In 2022, the Cabinet adopted the National Nursing and Midwifery plan (2022-2026), which aims to strengthen nursing and midwifery governance via professional organizational policies and practices.

The strategy also intends to help accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals and plan and manage the nursing and midwifery workforce. It also encourages nurses and midwives to follow their education and experience to provide high-quality healthcare.

Dr. Nadine Tracha, Pfizer Gulf Medical Director, said nurses are the largest group of health care workers and make a substantial difference in patients’ lives.

“We are proud to advocate the crucial role of nurses and we look forward to contributing to the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery by supporting novel strategies to strengthen the ecosystem of education, development, management, and clinical practice at the healthcare level,” said Dr. Tracha.

It is important to note that the national strategy for nursing and midwifery (2022-2026) has five strategic pillars: effective regulation, governance, and leadership, sustainable nursing and midwifery workforce management system, transformative practice, service, and quality care, quality and innovative education and professional development, and advanced research, evidence-based practice responsive to national health priorities.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention heads the National Committee for Nursing and Midwifery. The committee oversees national strategy execution.

The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), Emirates Health Services, Dubai Academic Healthcare Corporation (DAHC), and Abu Dhabi Health Services Co. “SEHA” are among its members.
