The gut affects immunity, metabolism, digestion, and health. Millions of helpful gut bacteria break down meals and absorb nutrients. Diet affects gut health and microorganisms.
Certain meals can disrupt gut flora, cause inflammation, and increase the risk of gut illnesses. Nutritionist Lovneet Batra lists gut-harming foods to help us avoid them.
The dietitian lists six foods that may harm your gut:
- Sugar kills good intestinal flora, causing inflammation.
- Artificial sweeteners can induce inflammation since our systems cannot absorb them.
- Fried meals include saturated fat, which is harsh on the intestines, making them harder to digest.
- UPFs have more salt, fat, sugar, and food additives. Ultra-processed food alters gut microbiome and causes inflammation.
- Vegetable oils with a high omega-6-to-omega-3 ratio can promote bloating, inflammation, and intestinal lining damage.
- Alcohol damages the gut lining and increases endotoxin. Dysbiosis or bacterial overgrowth can cause poor digestion, acid reflux, and SIBO.
Diet determines intestinal health. For intestinal health, avoid these foods.
