Kwara receives 157 NLC Covid-19 tests and vaccinations 2023
Kwara State’s Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chapter’s Covid-19 Testing and Vaccination outreach at workplaces has helped over 157 residents.
The union’s goodwill gesture was part of its proactive avoidance of COVID-19 at workplaces.
The labor union’s peer educators, educated following the awareness campaign to have employees tested and vaccinated, were completely engaged in gathering workers from different ministries in the state.
Thursday-Friday testing and immunization had a great turnout.
At the flag off ceremony of the 3-day intervention programme to curb the pandemic in workplaces, Muritala Saheed, Kwara State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Coordinator, NLC Covid-19
Response Mechanism Project, said the project, themed “Sensitisation and Social Mobilisation for Uptake of Covid-19 Testing and Vaccination: A Test Case of Our Readiness for Emergency Situation,” was meant to encourage workers to get tested and vaccinated.
“We are using Sensitisation and social mobilisation for uptake of Covid-19 Testing and Vaccination as veritable leverage to put ourselves in a vantage position to test run our preparedness for future emergencies like coronavirus pandemic or epidemic outbreak in the country.
The project would help the NLC and Nigerian workers stay healthy and productive.
“We call on employers of labor to take measures to minimise the risk of Covid-19 transmission among workers, visitors, and all those who are involved in the business with the workplace by ensuring proper hygiene in the workplace,” Saheed stated.
NLC taught union and organization officials on COVID-19 testing and immunization tactics.
Tahir Hashim, Assistant Secretary General (NLC), Abuja, stated that the initiative sought to raise awareness of testing and vaccination among Nigerians.
He said SARS-Cov-2 versions Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron had fever, weariness, sore throat, and other symptoms.

Hashim stated that NACA is supervising the globally financed initiative to support Nigeria’s public health management efforts.
Yunus Sarat, the medical team head from the Kwara State Primary health care development agency, advised that “it is very important for people to take all doses because we may have further occurrence” on the need of COVID-19 vaccination.
She clarified that people have varied biological systems and will react differently to the immunization.
Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) is body-dependent. She stated the vaccination is safe, effective, and guarantees robust immunity.
However, Oniyangi Abdulgafar stated that testing is done every two weeks to determine status.
He said all project testing were negative.
