What is Vaping?
Vaping is the process of inhaling a nicotine and flavoring mist (e-liquid) using a tiny, portable device (such as an e-cigarette, vape pen, or mod). Vaping is comparable to smoking cigarettes, except instead of burning tobacco, it heats minuscule particles out of a liquid.

How does the vaping process operate?
In order to inhale liquid into your lungs, vaping involves heating the liquid inside a tiny device. The liquid in the vape pen, e-cigarette, or other device is heated to produce an aerosol. This isn’t vaporized water. E-cigarette mist is made up of flavoring, nicotine, and other chemicals that are in the air. Through the mouthpiece, you inhale these particles, which go down your throat and into your lungs.
What are vape pens, or e-cigarettes?
A gadget called an electronic cigarette, or “e-cigarette,” warms up liquid nicotine and flavoring so you may inhale it. Vapes, vape pens or sticks, e-hookahs, hookah sticks, mods, and personal vaporizers (PVs) are just a few of the various names for e-cigarettes. Alternatively, they may be referred to as electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS).
What distinguishes vaping from cigarette smoking?
Both smoking and vaping entail taking in chemicals, including nicotine, into your lungs. While traditional cigarettes burn tobacco to produce smoke, e-cigarettes heat liquid to generate an aerosol.
Is vaping more harmful than smoking?
Although vaping is sometimes seen as less harmful than smoking cigarettes, there are still health risks associated with it. Both smoking and vaping introduce potentially harmful substances into your body and are addicting. When you burn tobacco, several of these compounds are present in increased concentrations. We don’t yet know the full extent of the potential long-term harm associated with vaping.
How does vaping affect the lungs?
Inhaled particles when vaping have the potential to induce edema and irritation in your lungs. This may result in lung damage such as scarring and constriction of the airways leading to and from your lungs. The full range of impacts vaping can have on your body is yet unknown to researchers.
Isn’t vaping merely the vapor of water?
No. Water vapor is not produced by vaping, despite the name. In reality, it produces an aerosol, or mist, that is laced with minute particles of metal, nicotine, and other dangerous materials.
What is e-juice, or e-liquid?
The e-liquid that vaping devices utilize to create the inhaled vapor is sometimes referred to as e-juice or vape juice. Water is not all that e-liquids are.
What risks come with vaping?
Vaping has several risks, such as harm to the lungs and other organs, respiratory issues, addiction, and more. Though it’s not safe, vaping is sometimes mistaken for being “safer” than smoking.
Issues that arise from vaping include:
asthma. You have a higher risk of developing asthma and other lung diseases if you vape. It could exacerbate whatever asthma you already have.
lung damage. Some flavorings contain the chemical diethyl, which can result in popcorn lung, or bronchiolitis obliterans. Your lungs will be permanently scarred by bronchiolitis obliterans.
organ impairment. Nicotine and other ingredients in e-liquid can harm not just your lungs but also your heart and brain. We are aware that nicotine can impede brain growth, increase blood pressure, and cause artery narrowing.
Vaping or e-cigarette product usage linked lung damage is known as EVALI. Vaping is the cause of EVALI, a dangerous lung disease. You have symptoms including coughing, shortness of breath, and chest discomfort in addition to extensive lung damage. EVALI has the potential to be lethal.
addiction. Nicotine has a strong addictive potential. Your brain is altered as a result, making you need more and more nicotine. If you start having health issues from vaping, you might not be able to quit even if you would like to. Little quantities of nicotine are present in even so-called nicotine-free e-liquids.
smoking of cigarettes. Many people who begin vaping eventually switch to smoking cigarettes since cigarettes have more dangerous substances in them.
exposure through indirect means. While vaping doesn’t produce smoke, it does expose others around you to toxins and nicotine.
Detonations. There have been cases where vaping device batteries have exploded, leaving victims with severe burns and injuries.
Cancer. Certain components included in e-liquids have been linked to cancer.
